St Georges Hotel

St Georges Hotel

Wedgwood Ceiling, St Georges Hotel

Sea views, mountain vistas and wonderful Welsh hospitality are the norm at this 150 year-old hotel. The St. Georges original Victorian features decorate the hotel throughout, in particular the Wedgwood Suite.

Why the change of venue for services?

The ministry of United Church of God in the British Isles has recommended a change of venue for the Feast meeting hall in Llandudno this year. This consensus was to move the venue for the Feast services from the Town Hall to the Wedgwood Suite at the St George's Hotel.

Here is some background that Peter Hawkins shared with the ministry as to how this came about:

“When David Fenney and I visited Llandudno 18 months ago, we felt the municipal hall would be a reasonable meeting venue. Originally we anticipated that after the Stirling 2008 feast (which was still nine months off at the time) there would be a small site in Wales.

However two factors have come into play.

1. The success of the Stirling site actually led to more from overseas applying for Llandudno than were expected. So it could be crowded if we used the Town Hall.

2. We have had a number of new families attending UCG services since the Town Hall was originally considered. So we should have a larger local presence, and more space could be needed in a mother’s room.

When Steven Moschidis, Brian Greaves, David Fenney and I visited the Municipal Hall earlier this year to look at the needs for sound equipment, etc. I had been asked to look in at a hotel on the promenade on behalf of another minister for possible accommodation.

As all the rooms were occupied, I decided to investigate the St Georges hotel over the road – and just down the street from the potential meeting hall.

I was surprised to find two fine meeting halls in the hotel that are often used by members of the Welsh National Assembly for meetings. The Feast period happened to be available at that time for booking, excepting Friday 9th. David Fenney, Steven and Brian came over to have a look, and we also investigated the potential of rooms at a negotiated rate – now £80 per double or twin per room for B&B, which is very good for a four star hotel! For a single room it is £65 per night.

The meeting room I would recommend that we book is the Wedgwood Suite, which can take up to 250 people, 200 more comfortably in theatre rows.

There is a sizable room on one side for music practices, meetings and during services mother’s area. In the hire of the room the sound equipment and electronic piano are included in the price.

I'm sure that older members and new people will appreciate the uplifting environment. If you would like to see the rooms and the hotel, please take a look at www.llandudno.com/georges.html or at their own web site www.stgeorgeswales.co.uk.

There are quite a number of other benefits of using the Wedgwood – like a good meeting place for members before and after the service in the lounge areas, where coffee and snacks are also available. Also the technical set up is done by the hotel with their staff who are using the equipment all the time."

We hope you enjoy the new venue!
